Sacred Formulas of the Cherokees
Documented from the notebooks of Cherokee practitioner Swimmer in the late 19th century, this is the primary ethnographic record of Cherokee ceremonial knowledge in written form. Mooney's fieldwork for the Bureau of American Ethnology preserved a body of linguistic and cultural material that would otherwise have been lost. An essential reference for Cherokee studies and the history of Indigenous documentation in North America.
